Program Overview
The Fellowship Initiative (TFI), created by JPMorgan Chase, is a comprehensive youth development program designed to expand economic opportunities and diversify talent pipelines.Â
TFI offers over 100 days of mentorship, academic support, career preparation, and leadership development activities, with significant involvement from employee volunteers.
In the Bay Area, the program is implemented in partnership with Kingmakers of Oakland.
THIS PROGRAM AIMS TO ADDRESS 3 PRIMARY COLLEGE READINESS ISSUES FACED BY BLACK AND LATINO YOUTH:
Access to rigorous college preparatory courses.Â
Access to experienced teachers who have high levels of cultural competencies when working with Black and Brown Boys/Men.
Access to consistent guidance counseling and mental health support to track students academic and personal progress.
We meet 3 Saturdays a month, go on field trips and college tours, learn about different careers from experts in their respective fields and more.
Young men of color are eligible to apply during their 9th-grade year. The program officially starts in the summer before their 10th grade and continues through the summer before they begin college. The only criteria to participate in the program are that you must be a young man of color and committed to completing the program. TFI wants to help all students no matter their GPA, or economic status; all young men of color are welcome.
The next application season opens in the Spring of 2026. After the interview process is complete, TFI staff reviews all applications and interview components to select about 40-45 students to participate in the program.
