Kingmakers of Oakland is excited to announce the launch of Kingmakers Music, our new music label dedicated to nurturing and amplifying the voices of Black and Brown youth. This initiative is more than just a music label—it’s a platform for self-expression, cultural pride, and community empowerment.
As part of our commitment to fostering positive outcomes for young people, Kingmakers Music will serve as a youth artist incubator, providing a space where young talents can develop their craft, share their stories, and connect with their cultural roots. Under the visionary leadership of Jahi, our Director of Youth Voice and Leadership, this label is set to become a cornerstone of our mission to uplift and empower the next generation.
Jahi’s return to Kingmakers is a full-circle moment, blending his lifelong passion for Hip Hop with his dedication to education and community building. As he reflects, “Kingmakers Music offers young Kings and people an opportunity to hear music and music production that offers hope, self-determination, and is centered in Black love.”
The label’s first major release, the album “Black Love,” is a testament to this vision. Curated by Jahi and featuring a diverse array of local artists, the album captures the essence of Oakland’s cultural landscape and challenges prevailing narratives with its authenticity and artistic brilliance. Through Kingmakers Music, we aim to create a lasting impact, ensuring that the stories and voices of our youth are heard, celebrated, and preserved for future generations.
Stay tuned as we embark on this transformative journey, and join us in celebrating the power of music to inspire change and elevate our community.
