A safe and brave space for Black boys (Kings) to build community, learn how to find and develop their voice, enjoy unique experiences, and co lead and co create a creative expression project to share with their school community.
Kingmakers Club will be led by international Hip Hop artist, author and curator Jahi who has 30 years of experience motivating and empowering Black boys and community.
First Fridays
Voice Development: Inspiring growth through motivational local and historical figures using video, audio, books, special guests, and research.
Community Rituals: Co-led and co-designed practices rooted in the Ubuntu philosophy, aligning with the KOO logo.
Peer Support: Academic and social-emotional check-ins fostering listening, advice, and the concept of collective genius.
Enriching Experiences: “Last Saturdays” activities exploring nature and community connections.
Last Saturdays
Nature Exploration: Connecting with self through local and California’s natural beauty, including parks, trails, gardens, lakes, rivers, and the Pacific Ocean.
Community Building: Supporting one another through map navigation, walk and hike challenges, and shared outdoor experiences.
Self-Reflection Tools: Using journals for personal growth and transformation through themes, vocabulary, and Ubuntu philosophy.
Interactive Activities: Incorporating maps, treasure hunts, and journaling tied to the KOO logo and key concepts.
Components
The Kingmakers Club will be comprised of 8-10 Kings, one parent (a father or Black male caregiver), one African American teacher, and one ally (a teacher or school shareholder who doesn’t identify as Black).
