Empowering Schools to Unlock the Greatness in Black Boys

Crowns Curriculum is a transformative A-G approved course designed to empower Black boys by fostering a deeper connection to their cultural identity.

The Process

Our Culturally Responsive Pedagogy and Curriculum Team provides support to districts, including:

Expert Guidance for Educators: Focused on teaching and learning strategies for Black boys.
Implementation & Facilitation: Support for course delivery and facilitation coaching.
Teacher & Leader Development: Coaching to foster educational success for Black boys.

Our district partner facilitators participate in Kingmakers of Oakland’s Professional Learning Community monthly workshops to build skills to:

Enhance their asset-based pedagogy and teaching practice
Create a learning environment in which Black boys experience a sense of belonging
Build their knowledge base of African-centered historical content to support an expanded racial and cultural identity for Black boys

We are revolutionizing perceptions of self, family, community, and possibilities amongst Kings and adults by:

Empowering them with knowledge of their African heritage and igniting their ancestral intelligence to enhance cultural and racial identity
Cultivating intergenerational teaching, learning and community support to nurture collective responsibility
Imparting essential leadership skills to foster self-efficacy
Providing safe spaces for healing and belonging
Producing inclusive media that acknowledges and celebrates our cultural prosperity and racial identities

The Outcomes

To dismantle the toxic ecosystem sculpted by white dominant and individualistic culture hindering the prosperity of our Kings and adults, our aim is to forge a network of successful Kings who will lead not only the present but also future generations.

Academic engagement and ownership
Citizenship
AP course and dual enrollment
