The KOO Media Academy is a workforce development and leadership program for Oakland students 14-21 years old. Students interested in learning TV, Film and Media have a unique opportunity to learn marketable skills while getting paid a stipend for completing the program sessions.
The Media Academy is led by an award-winning team of in-house and external media professionals. We believe narrative change can only be achieved by leveraging youth voices and talents. We position Kings as video producers and storytellers to create asset-based media. The Kings learn the skills to be in front of the camera, as well as behind the scenes. Students meet 3-6 hours a week between Mondays-Thursdays from 3:30pm-5:00pm. Skills learned range from operating video cameras, sound and audio and lighting equipment, to storytelling, journalism and video editing for professional development to enter the media industry as a young leader. The Media Academy sessions are held at various locations in Oakland and require that students transport themselves to and from the sites. Students canapply here now.
