On December 21st, TFI held our annual holiday session at the Ella Baker Center in Oakland. Families, Mentors, Kings, and Staff were present to play games, watch the year end slideshow and reflect together over a beautiful potluck lunch. After a long calendar year, filled with hard work and numerous meetings, the Kingmakers TFI community spent the last session focused on joy, love and unity.

On November 14th Kingmakers of Oakland participated in a Black Male Student Symposium.  This luncheon celebrating African-American young boys and men took place at Youth Uprising (YU).  Located in the heart of East Oakland, YU is a neighborhood hub offering young people services and programs to increase physical and mental wellbeing, community connection, educational attainment, and career achievement among youth members.  Castlemont High School is committed to creating and sustaining full-service Community Schools with robust, holistic student supports and programming demonstrated by events like this.  The school’s mission is to create a safe, healthy, inclusive, and engaging learning experience that prepares students for college, career and community.
