Kingmakers of Oakland released their third studio project this spring and got a chance to share it with the Oakland community at a Listening Party at the New Parkway Theater on June 22nd.Over 150 music lovers came out to hear our Black Joy album with the producers and artists: Basi, Drew Banga, Amari, B Deveau, 42k Lil, Anti Hero 510, Sin Q, Jada Imani, and more.
Black Joy features the Oakland School for the Arts Choir directed by Cava Menzies. The dynamic production of Black Joy was done by Drew Banga and Kev Choice while the album art was created by Olubori. Chris Chatmon and Menzies were executive producers.
At the Listening Party KOO also released 3 pre-released anime films that bring KOO music to life through animation, as another medium to reach the souls and spirits of everyone through asset-based movement music. The artists and participants were all singing and dancing along to the incredibly invigorating sounds.
You can listen to all KOO music on any of your streaming platforms, just search Kingmakers Of Oakland. We are currently working on our next project, Black Love, set to release before the end of the year. Stay tuned. In the meantime enjoy the music, play it in your class at point to get students thinking, and have academic discussions about music.
Our first single ‘We Kings’ was released on March 7th. Watch now!
