This substantial amount benefits several local Bay Area non-profits, including the impactful Kingmakers of Oakland. During the final regular season game against the Utah Jazz, Chris Chatmon, CEO of Kingmakers of Oakland, proudly accepted the donation in front of a sold-out crowd.
“We are profoundly grateful to the Warriors, a championship team that sets the standard not just in basketball but in community engagement,” acknowledged Chatmon. Each participating organization will receive a little over $160,000, fueling their ongoing initiatives.
This generous donation will significantly enhance Kingmakers’ Jenga Early-Literacy program, dedicated to ensuring that all Black boys in Oakland achieve reading proficiency by the third grade. In collaboration with Wordsmith Junior, led by Dr. Grace Carroll, the funds will support vital educational resources and interventions across Oakland elementary schools.
The Warriors’ commitment to community welfare continues to leave an indelible mark, demonstrating the powerful role sports organizations can play in fostering societal change. Winning championships on the court has made them a champion for youth empowerment in the community.
