[Southern CA. April 12, 2022] – Kingmakers of Oakland’s TFI College Access program went on a Southern California College tour in collaboration with the Social Justice Learning Institute’s (SJLI) TFI-LA cohort.
We traveled to 5 schools with 75 Black and Brown 11th grade males; UCSB, UCLA, SDSU, UCSD and USC. When touring we met with college students of color to learn about life on campus from their perspective. Our kings were able to ask questions about the college experience as well as gain insight on what it takes to get into a 4 year university.
“The purpose of the TFI program is to increase the number of Black and Brown males in higher education,” stated TFI Oakland Program Director Obasi Davis. “Being able to bring 75 black and brown males to these institutions, that have long stood as gatekeepers of knowledge and upward mobility in this country, was a transformational experience for everyone involved.”
